Katherine Duncan, M.D.
Dr. Duncan is board certified in both internal medicine and obesity medicine. She transitioned to the position of Medical Director of the IMA Weight Management Program in March of 2025.
In her new role, she oversees and guides the program while working closely with PA Diego Alvarado to ensure seamless coordination of care. Dr. Duncan is actively involved in reviewing cases, particularly for patients with complex needs, weight loss plateaus, as well as special dietary concerns and situations, provides direct consultation and guidance to Diego to ensure continuity and the highest level of care.
Dr. Duncan was born in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and moved to Scottsdale as a child. She attended the University of Arizona for her undergraduate education, and then continued there for medical school. She went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, and then practiced outpatient internal medicine for a few years. During that time, she became board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine and then completed a coveted one year fellowship in Obesity and Metabolism at the University of Texas in Houston. She has focused her practice completely on obesity medicine since completing her fellowship in 2017. She has been actively involved in national and local organizations, including the Obesity Medicine Association and the Arizona Obesity Organization where she served on the board of directors.
She is married, had two daughters, a big dog, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, doing Pilates, and reading.
